As a loving owner of a dog or cat, you want to provide only the best toys and bowls for your furry friends. Was it kind of you that some plastic is not equal to the other? Some plastics are okay for pet stuff and some can be bad.
Different types of plastic: A pet owner’s guide There are also special names for different kinds of plastics such as PVC, PP, HDPE and LDPE. The different types of plastics each have unique properties that make them better or worse for pet toys.
PVC is a robust type of plastic that can be used to create excellent toys. Many of the toys made from PVC are durable and can withstand years upon years of playful joy. But be careful! Some PVC contains nasty chemicals that could be harmful to your pet. Always choose toys that are safe and clean. Seek out toys that claim to be BPA-free.
PP stands for polypropylene, a type of plastic that is easy to clean. Not easily wet savers your pet’s toys remain dry and clean. This is perfect for toys that could become slobbery or dirty. It's worth noting however — PP is tough to recycle. And when you are finished with PP toys, be sure to dispose of them properly.
Another one is HDPE (high-density polyethylene), which is an incredibly safe plastic that a lot of pet owners love. This plastic is free of harmful chemicals that can be harmful to your pets. Toys made from HDPE are durable and stand up to lots of play. The best part? HDPE is recyclable, which helps keep our planet clean and healthy!
LDPE is a tine and flexible plastic. It doesn’t feel like other plastics. But watch out — LDPE can break if your pet plays too rough or “chews hard. Some pets are very strong chewers, so LDPE may not be a great option for them.
Keep in mind that a good toy is great for your pet to stay happy, healthy and entertained! Always choose a toy that is made properly and considers your pet's safety.
