Yuezheng wants you to learn about the different types of plastic that are found in common products! Plastic types While there are many varieties of plastic, in this article we will touch on three significant types — HDPE, LDPE, and LLDPE. Different types of plastic are used for different purposes, and sometimes they can also do damage to the Earth. Let's dive into what these plastics are and how we use them in everyday life!
High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) This plastic is very thick and very durable. HDPE is used to make things that must be durable, such as water bottles, milk jugs, and garbage cans, since it is quite durable. It is heavy-duty and can be used to carry very heavy objects.
LDPE – Low-Density Polyethylene LDPE is thinner and more flexible than HDPE. This kind of plastic is ideal for producing bags used to haul groceries or other goods. You may recognize the LDPE in the thin, crinkly bags you find at shops or realized even trash bags.
You can find LDPE in various bags you use. Grocery bags, trash bags, and even the squeezable bottles used for ketchup or mustard are made with LDPE. LDPE is light, which helps make grocery carry easier, but it's also important to be careful with it because it tears easily.
HDPE is an extremely durable plastic. This strength allows it to secure the goods for years. It is easier to recycle, which also conserves the Earth. On the downside, recycling HDPE is not an option when HDPE gets thrown away, and it can take 500 years or more to degrade in the environment. It can harm animals and plants.
LDPE is ideal for lightweight bags because it is cost-effective and easy to manufacture. It’s also super easy to recycle, which is helpful for Mother Earth. But LDPE is also not as strong as some other types of plastic. This means that LDPE bags are biodegradable, which can result in them littering around in the environment and causing pollution.
It is common to produce stretchy objects from LLDPE, such as wrap that binds objects. It is sturdy enough to safely hold things, especially for shipping purposes. But there’s a downside: LLDPE can be difficult to recycle. You have to be careful about using it and making sure it doesn’t get where it shouldn’t be.
